Introducing the patented new

ChronoDiscTM Wall Clock

The new ChronoDiscTM wall clock combines unique design and traditional indicator movement for a wall clock that is visually striking and instantly easy-to-read.

The ChronoDiscTM wall clock is covered by U.S. patents 7,061,833 and 8,879,366.

Style and Substance: A unique design that’s easy to read.

Style: As time passes, the two pointers of the ChronoDiscTM wall clock seem to magically float in front of a stationary disc. The shape of the pointers lets you instantly recognize that you are gazing at a clock, but it is like no other clock you have ever seen: there are no hands; the center is open.  The patented design of the ChronoDiscTM wall clock is both striking and unique.

Substance: The ChronoDiscTM wall clock is a clock, of that there is no doubt. Instinctively, you can read the time; you instantly understand that the longer, thinner pointer is telling you the minute of the hour, just as the shorter, wider pointer is communicating the hour of the day. There is no learning curve; understanding of the ChronoDiscTM wall clock happens effortlessly.

The minute and hour discs are reversible with white indicators on one side and black indicators on the other side. The stationary third disc is reversible with one side in simple black and the other side with numbers and hour marks. Use the simple black side of the stationary disc with the white side of the pointers to create the pure, minimalistic appearance shown below:

Simply hang the drive unit on a wall and install the discs with the pointers pointing to the current time.  Slots on the top of the drive unit ensure the discs are properly positioned.  The discs are self-aligning, making disc placement easy.

Changing the time (like for daylight savings) is even easier: simply lift the disc, rotate it to indicate the new time and gently drop it back in its slot.

The retail packaging that protects the 12” diameter ChronoDiscTM wall clock during shipping presents it in an eye-catching and explanatory package.  Package dimensions: 13” x 13” x 3”.

The ChronoDiscTM wall clock may be presented in an unlimited number of configurations to appeal to a wide variety of consumers, while maintaining a unique, patent-protected configuration.  The configurations below are a small sample of the variety of styles that may be adapted to the ChronoDiscTM wall clock configuration.

Moreover, the unique design of the ChronoDiscTM wall clock can support more upscale pricing, particularly if upscale material such as aluminum or carbon fiber is used for the annular discs.

The patented ChronoDiscTM wall clock features a drive unit that is about the size of a cat food can.  The drive unit houses the clockwork and battery, and is hung on a wall on a single nail or screw like most clocks.

Annular discs (about 12” in diameter) are then dropped into slots on the top of the drive unit.  The wall clock includes a stationary disc (black with white numbers and hour marks on one side, plain black on the other), an hour indicator disc (with a white hour pointer on one side and a black pointer on the other side), and a minute indicator disc (with a white minute pointer on one side and a black pointer on the other side).  The hour and minute discs together weigh about 28 grams, which is comparable to the hands of large clocks.

The time is set by simply placing the indicator discs such that the pointer point to the current time.  The stationary disc remains still and is optional.  The two indicator discs are rotated by engaging with drive wheels located within the drive unit.  The discs are self-aligning, making disc placement easy.

The patented ChronoDiscTM wall clock features drive wheels that are attached to the output shafts of a modified standard clock movement.  The hour and minute discs are rotated by engaging with the drive wheels.  The exploded CAD drawing below shows the components of the drive unit.

Full CAD drawings of every component of the ChronoDiscTM wall clock are available for review.
